3M™ Hollow Glass Microspheres – Grade XLD 3000 are a specialty ultra-low density and finer version of Glass Microspheres designed to deliver maximum weight reduction and thermal insulation at very high volume loading. XLD 3000 enables formulators to create extremely lightweight cementitious, polymeric, and coating systems where density reduction, thermal efficiency, and ease of application are the primary performance drivers.
In construction and infrastructure applications, XLD 3000 is particularly effective in thermal insulating coatings, roof insulation layers, lightweight grouts, and low-load construction systems, where conventional fillers or higher-strength microspheres would add unnecessary weight.

Allows dramatic density reduction compared to mineral fillers and standard aggregates.
Trapped air inside microspheres reduces heat transfer through coatings and mortars.
Enables thicker coatings and fills without increasing structural load.
Spherical particles enhance flow, pumpability, and ease of placement.
Lightweight systems generate lower internal stress, reducing cracking tendency.
Inorganic glass structure resists moisture, UV exposure, and weathering.
Dosage depends on required density, insulation performance, and mechanical demands.
1 – 5% by volume of total formulation
Enables thick, insulating films with minimal weight addition.
1 – 2% replacement of conventional fillers/aggregates (by volume)
Best suited for non-structural and insulation-focused systems.
1 – 2% aggregate replacement (by volume)
Maximizes dead-load reduction for refurbishment projects.
