Lift Light. Fly Further.

Explore our latest articles offering in-depth insights and the latest innovations in the world of science.

In electronics manufacturing, microscopic details define success. A single void, pinhole, or poor wetting on a circuit board can compromise performance and reliability. Surface control — the science of how liquids spread, wet, and adhere — is at the heart of every successful soldering, coating, and flux process. That’s where SURFLON™ S-386, a non-ionic, polymeric C6 fluorosurfactant (Mad in Japan) brings game-changing precision.

Lightweight matters.

In drones, every gram saved amplifies flight time, payload capacity and manoeuvrability. By intelligently replacing dense fillers with ultra-light, high-strength hollow glass microspheres, designers can sculpt structures that are lighter and stronger — from delicate rotor blades to load-bearing fuselages. Geocon Products offers three purpose-matched 3M™ microsphere grades engineered for next-generation drone components: 3M K-15 for fins & blades, and 3M S28HS and 3M iM16K for body and structural parts.

Why hollow glass microspheres for drones?

Hollow glass microspheres (HGMs) are microscopic, spherical glass bubbles with a hollow core. They deliver a unique combination of:

For UAVs and drones, HGMs enable lighter rotor blades, reduced inertia in moving parts, improved range, and better payload efficiency — all while maintaining structural integrity.

Our recommended grades & where to use them

1. K-15 — Precision for Fins & Blades

Ideal for: Rotor blades, fins, small control surfaces and any thin, high-aspect components where extreme lightness and surface finish matter.

Key specs (typical):

Why K-15 for blades: Its ultra-low density reduces rotational inertia, improving acceleration and responsiveness. The fine particle size and spherical shape support smooth surface finish — essential for aerodynamic efficiency.

2. S28HS — High Strength for Main Body & Structural Ribs

Ideal for: Fuselage cores, honeycomb core fillers, structural ribs, and composite sandwich cores where higher compressive strength and impact resistance are required.

Key specs (typical):

Why S28HS for body: Balances low weight with significantly higher crush strength — ideal for components that bear loads, resist impacts, or form part of sandwich structures in composite layups.

3. iM16K — Versatile Core & Fill for Structural Panels

Ideal for: Core fillers in syntactic foams, weight-saving fillers in castings and molded body panels where medium density and excellent crush resistance are needed.
